Heartworm Treatment
Every dog six months of age or older is checked for heartworm at the Bay Area SPCA. Dogs who test negative are started on heartworm preventative and remain on preventative while they are in our care.
Unfortunately, many of our dogs are testing positive for heartworm. While a heartworm positive dog can be treated if the dog is otherwise healthy, the treatment is very expensive. The treatment cost is based on the body weight of the dog. On average, the cost to our shelter is about $300 per dog. However, the treatment for large dogs is more expensive. Please help us treat our heartworm positive dogs by donating to our Heartworm Treatment Fund. Click here to see some of our dogs currently waiting for heartworm treatment.
We accept cash, checks, Visa, Master Card and Discover. To donate online, click here.
Recycle
The Bay Area SPCA is working with www.wirelessfoundation.org to recycle cell phones. Just bring your old cell phones to us, working or not, and we'll do the rest. With each phone, the Bay Area SPCA will receive a donation, and the phones will be used for the Wireless Foundation's nationwide community support efforts that include providing wireless telephones to victims of domestic abuse and supplying wireless technology to schools.
We're also collecting old toner and ink jet cartridges for recycling. We can send these in for recycling and receive needed donations for our shelter. For more information about bringing us your recycled goods, contact us.
