Matchmaker Guide

We are looking for personable individuals to guide visitors through our facility and assist them with selecting the perfect animal for their family and home.

Canine Coaches
This position has gone to the dogs! We are of the mind-set that it is just not enough to simply place a roof over the head of a homeless pet and provide it with food, water and medication; mental stimulation is a major part of animal care at our facility. A great love of canines and the physical ability to handle sometimes excessively enthusiastic larger dogs are all this position requires. Training for our Canine Coaches will be provided by our trainer, Jason Vasconi, to ensure consistency and the results will help our animals find their forever homes! Other than an occasionally required training session, this position is unscheduled, allowing you to come in when available. We ask that you document what efforts and strides you and your four legged friends are making to keep staff and other volunteers up to date. Please email ShelterManager@BayAreaSPCA.org to sign up for the next training event.

Special Event Planners, Offsite Adoption and Offsite Event Volunteers
Frequently, people wish to support our efforts but find it too heartbreaking to come to the shelter. By doing community outreach, we can offer adoptions and education, as well as raise necessary funds and awareness to carry on our mission. We are involved in many activities outside the shelter that require volunteer support and even have some administrative tasks that can be done outside of the shelter. If you are creative, outgoing, diplomatic and an animal lover, any one of these roles is for you!

Woofstock Committee: Help us plan our biggest annual fundraiser! Contact Karen, our Woofstock Committee Chairperson at Woofstock@BayAreaSPCA.org for more information!

PETCO: Each Sunday we take several of our adoptable animals to PETCO to help them find their new forever homes. The number of animals we can take is dependent on the number of volunteers who can help prepare the animals at the shelter and handle them at PETCO. If you are interested in being a part of this very successful program, please contact our PETCO Coordinator, Danny at dasdad@earthlink.net or 281-474-4740.

Offsite Public Relations Events: We are often invited to show off our organization at events, area businesses and other venues. These are priceless opportunities to showcase what our group does for the homeless pets of the area, to promote our upcoming events, to raise needed funding and to show off photos of our adoptable animals! If you’d like to shine on behalf of the Bay Area SPCA at offsite events like this, please contact ShelterManager@BayAreaSPCA.org.

Office Work: With a minimum of paid staff due to funding constraints, the Bay Area SPCA relies heavily on volunteers to administratively support the organization. Quarterly newsletter mailings, weekly thank you notes, database entry and various other tasks are necessary, and they can be done from your home! If you are interested in helping us with this vital work, please contact ShelterManager@BayAreaSPCA.org

Please Note the Following
Age Constraints: For liability reasons, the Bay Area SPCA is unable to accept volunteers under the age of 16. Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while on Bay Area SPCA property.

Communication: In the interest of time, cost and general efficiency, most of our volunteer communication will be done via email and in specially created Yahoo Groups. This will keep confusion to a minimum while providing you with the opportunity to read the latest urgent requests for help and breaking news, all from the comfort of your own home surrounded by your very own beloved pets.
